Step 1: Setup
Get started on your migration by signing up for CDP Public Cloud
Step 2: Registration
Register your cluster on CDP Public Cloud as a “Classic Cluster”
Step 3: Migration
Migrate workloads to CDP Public Cloud using one of the following migration methods:
- For HDP using Hbase, use HBase Cluster Replication
- For CDH using Kafka, use Streams Replication Manager
Step 4: Streaming workloads
Approach streaming workloads accordingly when migrating to CDP Public Cloud:
- Use Data Hub cluster definitions (Kafka and NiFi) for streaming workloads
- Use Cloudera Flow Management for NiFi data ingestion and management if you currently use DataFlow

Based on your responses, we recommend a hybrid approach to moving to CDP: Migrate a majority of workloads to CDP Private Cloud, the on-premises version, and leverage CDP Public Cloud on an as-needed basis.

STEP 4: MIGRATION TO PUBLIC CLOUD
Start by migrating elastic or non-production workloads to public cloud to free up capacity on your existing clusters
- For HBase, use HBase cluster replication
- For Hive, HDFS, and Kafka, reach out to your Cloudera account team
- For streaming workloads, use Data Hub cluster definitions (Kafka and NiFi) to create streaming clusters in the cloud
- Use Streams Replication Manager to replicate Kafka data to the public cloud
- Migrate
STEP 5: MIGRATION TO PRIVATE CLOUD
Review updated HDP components or CDH components to determine which workloads will need to be refactored for migration. We have chosen components that offer the best set of features and functionality.
Determine your path to CDP, in-place upgrade or migration, depending on your uptime requirements.
